RC Car Classes We Race

There are many different classes of RC racing available today and we aim to accommodate as many of these classes as possible at our club.

A wide range of on-road classes can be raced at the club, with regular heats for the GT12, 1/12th Scale Mini (Brushed and Brushless), Tamiya Stock Touring (Iconic Cup style), Sports / Stock Touring Car, Tamiya M-Chassis, M-TC (Mini Touring Car) LMP, 1/12th Hot Hatch classes. We would also invite any other 1:12th scale classes to race and we will work to accommodate them within our racing schedule on a club night.

The Bromham Village Hall we use as our race venue is a smaller area than others, with average lap times being around 7-8 seconds depending on track layout.

Main Classes Raced

GT12

GT12 is a mid-level class designed originally as a support and entry class to the 1:12th LMP cars, the cars are fast and light with real-world inspired GT3 car bodyshells. They run 1-Cell (1S) LiPo batteries, with a 13.5 turn brushless motor, foam tyres and a floating rear motor pod. Differential actions are allowed on the rear drive axle for those getting started but a fixed-axle spool is also commonly used.

Tyres: Foam

Batteries: 1S LiPo

Motors: 13.5 Turn Brushless

Chassis Manufacturers: Schumacher, Zen

1/12th Scale Mini

The 1/12th Scale Mini classes are part of the 1:12th Oval and 1/12th Circuit section and are ideal beginner through to experienced racer classes – which also attract experienced racers. The cars are a little slower and heavier than other classes, as well as being much more robust so are an ideal entry point into the world of on-road RC racing. We recommend first-time drivers look into these classes as a starting point, as they are much more affordable to get started with than a GT12 or LMP class, and require much less regular maintenance to keep running. They use brushed motors with a 4 Cell NiMh battery or brushless motors with a 2S hard cased LiPo Battery, with solid rear axles, solid chassis and no damping.

Tyres: Foam

Batteries: 2S LiPo (Brushless Motors) / 4.8v 4 Cell NiMh (Brushed Motors)

Motors: 25 Turn Brushless / 21 Turn Brushed

Chassis Manufacturers: Kamtec, Mardave, Battcave, TWR Modelsport

1/12th Scale Hot Hatch

The 1/12th Scale Hot Hatch Class is a non BRCA (British Radio Car Association) class, raced at club level with slight rule variations across the United Kingdom. The technology behind these cars is simple and transferable – using the same electronics as the 1/10th Scale Sports Touring Car (Tamiya + Others) – with the Hobbywing 1060 / 1080 Quicrun ESC and 21 Turn (Core 21 + Others) Motor.

The idea behind the “Hot Hatch” is that shells should be representative of sporty hatch backs (ideally not GT style bodyshells) but this class is open and very much focused on fun – so no hard restrictions there.

Tyres: Foam

Batteries: 2S LiPo

Motors: 21 Turn Brushed

Chassis Manufacturers: Kamtec Mardave, Schumacher (with the Supastox / Supastox GT)

Tamiya Trucks

We’ve had a surge of Tamiya racing at Bedfordshire model car club since 2025 – which is always exciting, fun and close. It’s an affordable class for all abilities, even with the occasional appearance of Carl and Mark from Popalong RC!

A ruleset will be published soon – but we are aligned with Milton Keynes and other local clubs on our rules.

Tyres: Rubber

Batteries: 2S LiPo

Motors: 21 Turn Brushed

Chassis Manufacturers: Tamiya

Sports / Stock Touring Car (Tamiya + Others)

4WD Sports Touring Car is a fantastically fun class, with options from Ready To Run (RTR) cars through to “full-build” Tamiya Kits (and options in between) with low cost electronics and rubber tyres, the class has a lot of kerb appeal – and wallet appeal!

Tyres: Rubber (typically Rush 28X)

Batteries: 2S LiPo

Motors 21 Turn Brushed

Chassis Manufacturers: Tamiya, FTX (Banzai), Carten (T410 ARTR)
