We run the 1/12th Circuit Mini Class to “Mini Masters The Series” construction rules, as these are an established ruleset and are used in other clubs that run both Brushless and Brushed Mini classes.
Here’s a link to the rules – Click Here
Rules are intended to make things simpler for regular racers and those looking to get involved – we’re not governed by the FIA and there won’t be appeals and controversy because someone’s windows “aren’t quite transparent” as per the rules.
We’re here to have fun – and be as inclusive as possible – preventing the need to “spend your way into the lead” is a priority.

Summarised Rules
🏎️ RC Mini Racing: Club Rules & Guidance
Welcome to the RC Mini Racing class! Our club follows a “Spirit of the Rules” approach: we aim for simple, low-cost, and fair competition. Whether you are a total beginner or a seasoned pro, these rules ensure that racing is decided by driving skill, not by the size of your wallet.
🛠️ Approved Manufacturers (Ready-to-Race)
If you are looking for a car that is legal “out of the box,” the following manufacturers produce kits that comply with our construction rules as standard:
- Battcave (Shaun Batt)
- TWR Modelsport (Harry Weymouth)
- Mardave (Chris Wilkinson)
- Kamtec (Keith Dowse)
Note: To keep the field level, prototype parts, one-offs, or home-made modifications are not permitted unless explicitly stated.
📏 General Construction Guidelines
All cars must adhere to these physical specifications to ensure fair racing across all heats:
- Dimensions: Maximum width of 161mm; Wheelbase must be 175mm (+/- 2mm).
- Materials: Use only Steel, Aluminum, Brass, or GRP. No Titanium or pure Carbon Fiber allowed.
- Suspension: Simple sliding kingpin (front) and single-pivot pod (rear). Oil-filled shocks or dampers are strictly forbidden.
- Drive System: Solid rear axle (no differentials). Drive must be via Z-drive or Slot-drive only.
- Gearing: Standard 32dp pitch gears only.
⚡ Choose Your Class: Brushed vs. Brushless
We run two main categories:
| Feature | Brushed Class | Brushless Class |
|---|---|---|
| Motor | Approved 540 “Silver Can” (Mardave G2, Core 21, Etronix 20T) | Any 25.5T Fixed Timing (Sensored) |
| ESC | Any under £60 | Any under £80 (Must support “Blinky” mode) |
| Battery | 4-Cell Sub-C NiMH (stick or saddle) | 2S Hard Case LiPo (Max 8.40v) |
| Gearing | Fixed: 15-17T Pinion / 46-50T Spur | Any 32dp Pinion / Kit-specific Spur |
💡 Electronics Spotlight: For the Brushless class, Hobbywing (Justock series) and Surpass (Supersonic series) Motor/ESC combos are fully compliant with our rules as standard. They are the gold standard for reliability and “Blinky” mode compliance!
🎨 Body Shells & Safety
- Style: Use commercially available shells. Windows must remain clear.
- Wings: One wing per car (max 160mm wide).
- Safety: No sharp edges allowed. For LiPo users, batteries must be charged inside a secure LiPo sack at all times.

Most Important Rule
Have fun!
These classes are designed to be accessible for newcomers through to national series racers – but with an emphasis on fun at the club level.
The rules are open enough to allow drivers to run what they own, without having to spend a fortune on new parts just to be able to compete.
Inevitably there will be a little bit of contact between cars while racing, as long as the racing is kept to a clean standard then there will be no problems.
If you see a rule that doesn’t look right or needs a clarification, do not hesitate to mention it to the committee and we will look to resolve it in the most fair way possible.
